Eating in Cusco during your first few days

Practical food precautions, dietary questions and simple meal planning after arrival.

Pay attention to preparation

Choose thoroughly cooked food served hot. Avoid raw food when preparation is uncertain and wash your hands before eating. Citrus in ceviche is not a substitute for cooking. CDC: food safety.

Make dietary needs clear

Keep allergies and restrictions written in Spanish. Ask each venue about ingredients and preparation; do not assume a dish can be adapted or that cross-contact can be avoided. Tell Casa Agustina about breakfast requirements in advance and wait for confirmation of what is possible.

Keep the first day manageable

Leave time for a meal and a break between your transfer and sightseeing. Have safe drinking water available and a simple plan if you arrive after breakfast. Do not assume every symptom comes from food: read the altitude warning signs too, and seek help for severe or persistent symptoms.
