Before you travel

Allow a gradual ascent where possible. Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for the first 48 hours; seek advice before travel if you have a pre-existing condition. CDC: high-altitude travel.

When to stop your plans

A headache with nausea, dizziness or fatigue can signal altitude illness. Do not ascend further with symptoms. Confusion, loss of coordination or breathlessness at rest call for urgent care and safe descent; do not wait overnight. CDC: altitude illness.

Have a backup plan

Save your insurer’s contact details and agree with your companions how to get help before an outing. A prepaid excursion is not a reason to keep going when you feel unwell. These general notes cannot diagnose symptoms or prescribe medicine. Casa Agustina is not a medical service, and its WhatsApp contact does not replace urgent assistance.
